The standard South African school-leaving qualification, awarded on completion of Grade 12. The NSC is administered by one of three Umalusi-accredited examination bodies: the DBE (public schools and some independents), the IEB (most high-fee independents), and SACAI (most online and distance providers). Umalusi has stated directly that universities cannot differentiate between the three when presented with the NSC certificate.
Admission decisions rest on the qualification level (Bachelor pass, Diploma, or Higher Certificate) and the subject marks, which convert to the same APS scale regardless of examination body.
