One of three Umalusi-accredited bodies that administer the NSC. IEB sets its own papers, primarily for independent schools. Its papers are widely regarded as more demanding in critical thinking and application. Most high-fee independent schools, including Bridge House and Curro Hermanus, use IEB. Michael Mount Waldorf School in Johannesburg also uses IEB.
The IEB matric qualification is identical in legal standing to the DBE and SACAI NSC. IEB 2024 pass rates were 98.47%, with 89.37% achieving bachelor-level passes.
