The framework administered by SAQA that places every recognised qualification in South Africa on a ten-level scale. Grade 9 sits at NQF Level 1. The NSC sits at NQF Level 4, alongside occupational certificates such as CATHSSETA’s FET Certificate: Tourist Guiding and Elsenburg’s Orchard and Vineyard Foreman certificate. A bachelor’s degree sits at NQF Level 7.
NQF levels matter for post-school entry: a learner completing Grade 9 (NQF 1) qualifies for Elsenburg’s Livestock Farmer (NQF 3) programme; a matriculant (NQF 4) qualifies for TVET NATED N4 diplomas and university admission.
