Continuous assessment carried out and moderated by the school (or provider) during Grades 10 to 12 that counts toward the final NSC mark. SBAs typically contribute around 25 percent of the final mark for most subjects. Every DBE, IEB, and SACAI registered institution runs them.
For online providers, SBA submission and moderation happen through the examination body. Practical subjects (Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Visual Arts, Technology) require physical arrangements that some providers handle by shipping experiment kits, others by supervised sessions at examination centres.
