The Western Cape Department of Agriculture’s training institute, based in Stellenbosch, offering fully funded one-year occupational qualifications in agriculture. The Livestock Farmer certificate (NQF Level 3) opens to school leavers from Grade 9. The Orchard and Vineyard Foreman certificate (NQF Level 4) opens from Grade 10 or five years of supervisory farm experience.
The programme is free (registration, tuition, hostel, meals, stipend, protective clothing all covered) and structured as alternating blocks: classroom weeks at Elsenburg, practical weeks on a host farm. Securing a host farm is the application bottleneck for valley families.
