The provincial education department responsible for schools in the Western Cape. The WCED registers public schools, registers independent schools under SASA Section 46, employs public-school teachers, sets quintile classifications, and oversees home-education registration for parents.
The WCED cannot override a public school’s language policy: under SASA Section 6, that authority sits with the School Governing Body. In Ward 2, WCED oversight applies to Emil Weder Secondary and would apply to Silverwood once registered.
