A group of families pooling resources to educate their children together, typically with a shared facilitator, a local venue, and an accredited online curriculum provider. Not a registered school. The legal basis is home education: each parent is registered with the WCED as the home educator; the shared arrangement is a support structure, not the schooling arrangement itself.
In the valley context, a microschool is the lowest-barrier collective solution that keeps English-medium children physically together while a formal school (Silverwood or an equivalent) is not available. Estimated cost: R40,000 to R95,000 per child per year, dropping as more families join.
