The legal arrangement under South African law by which a child of compulsory school age receives schooling at home. Each parent must register as the home educator with the provincial education department (WCED in the Western Cape) and use a curriculum aligned to an accredited examination body (typically SACAI).
Home education is the legal basis for a microschool: each family holds its own registration, and the shared facilitator and venue are support structures around the individual registrations.
