The oldest Moravian mission station in southern Africa, established in 1738, located roughly 7 km from Greyton. Predominantly Afrikaans-speaking; economically constrained relative to Greyton; carries a Khoi sanctuary history that predates the mission. Home to Emil Weder Secondary, the Genadendal Mission Museum, the historic church, and the watermill.
The 2038 tercentenary of the mission is a fixed community milestone that shapes valley planning.
