The DBE classification that places every South African public school in one of five bands (1 to 5) based on the poverty level of the surrounding community. Quintile 1 to 3 schools are no-fee schools. Quintile 4 and 5 schools may charge fees, set by the SGB and approved by parents at an annual budget meeting.
Overberg High School is Quintile 5 (fee-paying). Emil Weder’s quintile is TBV; rural Western Cape public schools in historically disadvantaged communities are typically Quintile 1 to 3.
